In a recent op-ed for Teen Vogue, Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Patrice Cullors writes, “We need to radically reimagine our concept of justice and safety. … the BREATHE Act is a landmark civil rights bill.”
It is laughable that Cullors would compare the BREATHE Act, which includes policies promoting neo-Marxist identity politics and socialistic wealth redistribution, to some of the epic legislation passed during the civil rights era.
According to Cullors, “The BREATHE Act is a legislative love letter to Black people. … It starts by divesting federal resources from vehicles of harm and punishment like policing and incarceration. That means slashing enormous police budgets.”
Earth to Cullors! Most black people, especially those who live in crime-ridden neighborhoods, do not support defunding the police.
She adds, “BREATHE will put us on the road to police and prison abolition … BREATHE will provide organizations rooted in their communities with the funds to create public safety systems uniquely tailored to their community’s needs and incentivize states to decarcerate and defund.”
Now, there is a great idea. Let’s defund the police while letting convicted criminals roam free!
As if that is not radical enough, she also writes, “BREATHE invests in education justice, housing justice, and environmental justice and fighting systemic, institutional racism because we know safety isn’t more police in the streets … [and] BREATHE will study and establish reparations programs.”
It isn’t shocking that someone like Cullors, who has a long history of radicalism, is promoting socialist ideas, but why in the world is Teen Vogue, which not that long ago was an innocent teeny-bopper magazine, giving a self-described “trained Marxist” a platform to reach out to tens of millions of teenagers? Probably because teenagers are the only group naïve and ignorant enough to actually support this crazy bill.
Apparently, BLM is taking the long-term approach, by brainwashing and indoctrinating the nation’s youth with this divisive rhetoric, hoping they will someday support these insane policies at the ballot box. And who knows, maybe it will work. After all, the nation’s government schools are already on-board with this socialist strategy.
