In a day and age in which most politicians are solely concerned with maintaining their power by keeping their elected office and remaining friendly with the establishment wing of their political party, Tulsi Gabbard stands as a woman apart.
Gabbard, a war veteran who represented Hawaii in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2021, was a longtime member of the Democratic Party until she came to the realization that the Democratic Party has abandoned the people and principles it once fought for.
Gabbard’s epiphany about the current nature of the party she once represented did not occur overnight. Once upon a time, Gabbard was seen as a rising star of the Democratic Party. However, this all came to a crashing halt in 2017, when Gabbard sought to work with President Trump concerning U.S. policy in Syria. From that point forward, Gabbard became persona non grata in the eyes of the powerful elites who run the party.
Gabbard ran for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2020, but it was an ill-fated attempt because the party’s power players made it nearly impossible for her to have any chance of a fair shot of winning the nomination. If that sounds familiar, see what the party did to Bernie Sanders when it looked as if he might win in 2016 and 2020. Gabbard was banned from participating in an important debate after the party changed the rules over debate eligibility at the last minute. She was pilloried in the press by left-wing talking heads, and she was even branded a “Russian asset” by Hillary Clinton.
Fast forward to October 2022. With the mid-term elections less than a month away, Gabbard, in classic maverick form, unleashed a stunning diatribe against her former party.
According to Gabbard:
I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, are dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.
It will be interesting to see what Gabbard does next.
Will she continue to pursue elected office? If so, will she join the GOP? Or, will she become an independent or third-party candidate?
Like it or not, Gabbard is a patriot who embraces the Constitution and believes in the fundamental values of America. In these times, the country needs more leaders like Gabbard.
