Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a self-described socialist, announced on Wednesday he is suspending his presidential campaign, effectively handing the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination to former Vice President Joe Biden.
“I wish I could give you better news,” Sanders said during the announcement on Wednesday. “But I think you know the truth, and that is that we are now some 300 delegates behind Vice President Biden, and the path toward victory is virtually impossible. So, while we are winning the ideological battle and while we are winning the support of so many young people and working people throughout the country, I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful. And so today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign.”
For those of you who support individual liberty, Bernie’s political demise is–well, fantastic news. As the face of the modern socialist movement in the United States, the Sanders campaign presented one of the greatest threats to freedom we’ve had in America in quite some time. So, we at Stopping Socialism are admittedly thrilled that Sanders is out and that he probably will never have another opportunity to run for president again.
If you missed Comrade Bernie’s announcement to leave the race, spend a few minutes to watch the video below. (It starts around the 22-minute mark.) Not only do you get to see a really sad Bernie Sanders, you also get to see what Bernie’s plans are for the near future. (More on that from us later.)
